Papermache Boat

WALT: Make a waka out of papermache.

Our first step to making a waka out of papermache.
I have not finished yet but this is just a the steps to making the papermache paper.

1. cut it out on the dotted line – the solid lines are for scoring -  there are little triangles on one end  – you can fold those back to trace the line onto your cardboard and poke your pencil through the tip of the V on the pattern to mark your cardboard.

2. Use a ruler to draw the lines as shown on the pattern. I’ve highlighted the lines to score in red. Use the BACK of your exact knife to score the lines in red and then gently bend the boat into shape.

3. Bring the edges together and secure with lots of scotch tape – they shouldn’t overlap but just meet and last tape the front tips together.

4. Trim any  excess  so the back edge is smooth and now you should have a little boat shape. Cut a strip of cardboard that’s about 1 ” by 3″.

5. Bend that strip into a little triangle shape that fits inside your boat and tape it in , just a little closer to the front (bow ) than the back (stern), this will hold your mast. You’re ready to paper mache – I recommend 2 layers using different papers – so you can see when a layer is complete. You don’t have to let the boat dry between layers but I like to. I start with the inside of the boat closing up the little triangle space – you don’t have to fill it – just close it up.

6. Notes on paper mache – I find it easiest to do the edges first and  the smaller the pieces of paper the smoother and stronger the finished result.   I use golden harvest wheat paste. Add your second layer of paper, let it dry completely then paint it. I used a mixture of latex and water colour.

Here is my waka I made. FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES.

A pile of paragraph

                          A pile of paragraph

A young girl walking home from school, saw a pile of polarold of photo's in the gutter. There were twenty in all, neatly wrapped in a rubber band. She picked them up and as she walk, she felt browse. The first photo was took of a ghostly white man on a black background, just standing far enough from the camera that he couldn't make out his features. The girl slide the photo behind the stack, and looked at the next one. The photo was still the same man but standing a bit closer, the girl flipped through the next several picture, quickly with each one the man in the photo came a lot closer and his features came clear. Turning the last corner of her house, the girl noticed that the man in the photo seems to be looking at her even when she moved the stacks side to side. It frighted her, but she kept flipping them over one by one.
By the nine-tenth picture the man was so close he filled the hole camera. His expression was the most horrifying the girl has ever seen. Walking up the driveway she turned the last picture, this time in stead of an image there were two words "Close Enough". Hearing a scream outside their house, the girls brother rushed to the door and opened it. All he saw was a pile of photographs lying on the door step the top one looked like a extremely white version of his sister, but she was standing too far back for him to be sure.

The door with no number - Scary/Sad story.

WALT: Write a narrative using our learning we've been learning this term.

The Door With No Number!

On a blustering day. A very prehistoric man named Dan went to a hotel and walked up to the front desk to check in. The woman at the desk gave him his keys and told him that on his way to his room, there was a door with no number, that was locked and no one was allowed in there. Especially no one should look inside the room under any “circumstances”. So he followed the instructions of the woman at the front desk, going straight to his room, and going to bed.

The next night his curiosity would not leave him alone about the room with no number on the door. He walked down the hall to the door and tried the handle. Sure enough it was locked. He bent down and looked through the wide keyhole. Cold air passed through and it, chilling his eyes. What he saw was a hotel bedroom, like his, and in the corner was a woman whose skin was completely white. She was leaning her head against the wall, facing away from the door. He stared in confusion for a while. He almost knocked on the door, out of curiosity, but decided not to.

This disinclination saved his life. He crept away from the door and walked back to his room. The next day, he returned to the door and looked through the wide keyhole. This time, all he saw was redness. He couldn’t make anything out besides a distinct red colour, UN moving. Perhaps the inhabitants of the room had knew he was spying the night before, and had blocked the keyhole with something red.

At this point he decided to consult the woman at the front desk for more information! She sighed and said “Did you look through the keyhole?” Dan told her that he had to and she said, “Well I might as well tell you the story A long time ago, a man murdered his wife in the room, and her ghost haunts it. But these people were not ordinary. They were white all over, except for their eyes “Which were red. “So Dan never went to his room again, or even the locked room.

He didn’t want to spend his whole night outside on the uncomfortable chairs, but he did it anyways. The next day he went for an 2 hour journey to look for another motel. He didn’t bother to take his packages with him, because then he would be pulling and pulling and pulling the whole way there. Then he died the day after. It was so sad.
